Lateral Thinking

The term Lateral Thinking coined by Edward de Bono, a psychologist,

physician, and writer. It is a deliberate “thinking method” that has to do

with perception.

The entry in the Concise English Dictionary reads: “seeking to solve

problems by unorthodox or apparently illogical methods.”

Lateral Thinking is concerned with changing concepts and perceptions.

It is about reasoning that is not immediately obvious and about ideas

that may not be obtainable by using only traditional step-by-step logic.

Lateral Thinking is related to insight, creativity and humour – a sudden

change of perspective, thus meaning.
